Does TELUS Fast Dial-up reduce the amount of time it takes to download e-mail?
Yes. TELUS Fast Dial-up reduces the amount of time it takes to download e-mail. However, this is not enabled by default.
To enable, simply:
Windows users - Click on the TELUS Fast Dial-up icon in the bottom right corner of your computer screen.
- Select settings from the menu.
- Select the options tab.
- Select the TELUS e-mail box.
- Select OK.
Macintosh users Not available for Macintosh users.
TELUS Fast Dial-up service is compatible with any POP3/SMTP client, including Outlook Express, Eudora and Netscape Mail.
Does TELUS Fast Dial-up increase the speed of my Webmail?
Yes. You can check your Webmail up to five times faster with TELUS Fast Dial-up.
How do I know if TELUS Fast Dial-up is working?
You should notice an increase in speed while you surf the Web.
You can check Fast Dial-up status as follows:
Windows users To verify that TELUS Fast Dial-up is working, mouse over the lower right hand corner of your desktop to see one of the following icons. 
Ready - Fast Dial-up is ready to work. 
Active - Fast Dial-up is working on a Webpage or e-mail download. 
Off - Either you have turned off your service, or the TELUS server is temporarily down. Macintosh users To verify that TELUS Fast Dial-up is working, click the TELUS Fast Dial-up icon at the bottom of you computer screen. The TELUS Fast Dial-up application window will appear. In the Status tab:

Waiting for traffic - displays if a browser is not open.
Acceleration is On - displays if the browser is not currently downloading a webpage. The lizard's tail will wag slowly while a download is in progress.
If TELUS Fast Dial-up is not running, how do I launch it manually?
For manual launching, please:
Windows users - Select the Window's Start button.
- Select Programs.
- Select TELUS.
- Select Fast Dial-up.
- Select the icon called TELUS Fast Dial-up.
Macintosh users
- Open the Macintosh HD folder.
- Open the Applications folder.
- Double-click the icon called TELUS Fast Dial-up.
Why are some Web images fuzzy?
TELUS Fast Dial-up works by compressing Web images so they are sent faster. You can select how much compression (speed) you want based on how clear you want your images to be. There are six possible settings; by default this option is set in the middle.
Setting default image quality:
Windows users - Click on the TELUS Fast Dial-up icon. Then select settings and slide the bar to the level desired. Press OK.
- When surfing: view any particular Web image at original quality by right-clicking on that image.
- (Advanced) you may designate certain Web sites to show original images despite your overall image quality preference. From the settings, image quality tab select create list of pages to restore to original quality and enter the Websites you want to view without compression.
Macintosh users
- Click on the TELUS Fast Dial-up icon at the bottom of your screen.
- Select the Images tab in the TELUS Fast Dial-up application window that appears on your desktop.
- Move the bar "faster" (more compressed image quality) or "slower" (better image quality) according to your preference.
Why can't I right-click on some images to view them at the full quality?
Some Web sites disable right-clicking functions. To see the full quality image:
- Change your default Image Setting to "Full Quality."
- Press the refresh button on your browser to load the entire page again.
- Change your default Image Setting back to your normal preference.
On other sites, the image in question may be a background image which has poor image quality.
Note that right-clicking to adjust a particular image's quality is not an available option for Mac users.
Can I use TELUS Fast Dial-up with any browser such as Opera, Mozilla, or Safari?
TELUS Fast Dial-up cannot be used with Opera. However, Fast Dial-up works with Mozilla and Safari and you must set the HTTP proxy host to be "localhost" and the port number to be 5400. Consult your browser's documentation for additional information.
Note you can change Fast Dial-up's port number by clicking on its icon, selecting settings, opening the connection tab and then pressing the advanced button.
Why do some games not work with TELUS Fast Dial-up?
Some games use older versions of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and cannot display certain image types. To fix this, change your Image Setting to the maximum quality level or upgrade to the newest JRE.
Some Macromedia Flash games may not work with TELUS Fast Dial-up service. To disable Fast Dial-up service from working on Macromedia Flash:
To disable Macromedia Flash compression:
Windows users - Click on the TELUS Fast Dial-up icon in the bottom right corner of your computer screen.
- Select settings.
- Select the options tab.
- De-select Macromedia Flash.
- Select OK.
Macintosh users - Click on the TELUS Fast Dial-up icon at the bottom of your screen.
- Select the Features tab in the TELUS Fast Dial-up application window that appears on your desktop.
- Uncheck the Enable Macromedia Flash compression box.
- Click Apply.

Windows users - Click the TELUS Fast Dial-up icon in the lower right corner of your computer screen.
- Select help and follow the instructions to send the required information to TELUS.
Macintosh users - Click on the TELUS Fast Dial-up icon at the bottom of your screen.
- Click on the TELUS Fast Dial-up application window that appears on your screen.
- Open the Fast Dial-up menu choice that appears at the top of your screen.
- Select Diagnostics.
- Select Get Diagnostic Info.
- Select Copy.
- Paste this log into TELUS' Fast Dial-up "Contact Us" form.
- In the form's Short summary field indicate that you are seeking Macintosh help.
Your log may be forwarded to Slipstream Data Inc, a TELUS partner, for further assistance.
